Chocolate Waffles with Chocolate Sauce - Orgran

Ingredients

  • Chocolate Waffles Ingredients -
  • packet Orgran Chocolate Muffin Mix
  • 1/2 cup Orgran All Purpose Plain Flour
  • 1/4 cup icing sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • butter or monounsaturated margarine
  • 1/8 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla
  • Chocolate Sauce Ingredients -
  • butter or monounsaturated margarine
  • 1 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 tablespoons golden syrup
  • 2 tablespoons cornflour
  • 3 tablespoons cocoa
  • 3 tablespoons cold water
  • 1/4 cup whipped cream

Method

  • Chocolate Waffles Method -
  • 1. Sift muffin mix, flour and icing sugar into a medium-sized mixing bowl.
  • 2. Break eggs into a small mixing bowl. Lightly beat eggs. Stir in milk.
  • 3. Place butter into a small saucepan. Melt over a low heat.
  • OR
  • Place butter into a small microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on high for 30 seconds and stir. Continue to microwave on high for 20 second intervals and stir until butter is melted.
  • 4. Stir bicarbonate of soda and vanilla into melted butter. Stir into milk mixture.
  • 5. Stir liquid into flour mixture in bowl. Beat well to mix ingredients.
  • 6. Turn on an electric waffle cooker. Cook waffles according to directions with the waffle cooker.
  • 7. When cooker is ready, pour a small portion of batter completely over base of waffle cooker.
  • 8. Close lid and cook for approx. 2 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through.
  • 9. When cooked, remove waffle from cooker and place onto a fine wire rack to cool.
  • 10. Cook remaining batter.
  • 11. Serve with Chocolate Sauce and ice-cream.
  • Chocolate Sauce Method -
  • 1. Place butter, sugar, warm water and golden syrup into a small bowl. Microwave on high for 1 minute and stir. Continue to microwave on medium-high, stirring at 30-second intervals until butter is melted.
  • 2. Place cornflour and cocoa into a separate small bowl. Pour in cold water and mix to a smooth paste. Gradually pour into sugar and water mixture.
  • 3. Microwave on high for 1 minute and stir. Continue to microwave on medium-high, stirring at 30-second intervals until sauce is thickened.
  • 4. Allow to cool slightly. Stir in cream.
  • 5. Any leftover sauce can be stored in the refrigerator until required.
