Chocolate Caramel Slice - Orgran Health & Nutrition

Ingredients

Base

  • 1 cup ORGRAN Itsy Bitsy™ Cocoa O’s
  • cup gluten-free oats
  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil, melted
  • 1 cup dates, soaked in hot water for at least 5 mins
  • pinch salt

Date caramel layer

  • 1 1/2 cups soaked dates
  • 1/4 cup tahini
  • 1/2 tablespoon vanilla
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon mesquite powder (optional)
  • pinch cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil, melted

Chocolate Layer

  • 1/2 cup cacao
  • cup coconut oil, melted
  • 1/3 cup maple syrup

Method

  • Place Orgran Cocoa O’s and oats in a food processor and blend until it resembles a crumb. Add in oil, dates and salt until combined and sticky. Press into the base of a lined dish – I like a thick slice so I used a loaf tin.
  • Place all ingredients for the caramel layer into the food processor and blend until smooth. Spread this mixture on top of the base layer and place in freezer while you work on the chocolate.
  • For the chocolate, simply mix all ingredients together in a bowl. I find this works best if the bowl is heated or is sitting in hot water. Pour this over the top of the slice.
  • Leave the slice to set for at least 45 mins in the freezer. Cut and serve! The slice can be stored in the freezer or fridge, just make sure you give it enough time to defrost if you store it in the freezer!
